Dutch Football Team AZ Alkmaar has announced crypto broker Bitcoin Meester as its exclusive and official cryptocurrency partner and claimed the wider adoption of crypto.

According to a statement posted Thursday on the club website, the Eredivisie side claimed crypto broker Bitcoin Meester as its exclusive and official cryptocurrency partner until 2024. As the announcement said, the sponsorship deal will be finalized fully in BTC, while the Dutch club is going to hold the Bitcoin sum on its balance sheet.

Michael Koster, AZ’s commercial director, sees the appeal of Bitcoin and crypto undeniable.

“The cryptocurrency market is booming, with an exponential growth of users in recent years,” he said, explaining the club’s decision to adopt BTC.

Koster added that football teams, as traditional non-crypto bodies, need the guidance of competent crypto market players, as Bitcoin Meester, which is one of the few cryptocurrency firms officially licensed by the Dutch central bank.

The deal was made despite growing discussion about crypto regulations amid the Dutch authorities, while one of the government officials called recently for a complete ban on cryptocurrency in the Netherlands.

Lately, crypto companies have boosted their activity by making sponsorship deals with sports teams to up brand recognition and develop their business. As previously reported, the world’s fastest-growing crypto platform Crypto.com recently announced a global partnership with Formula 1.

As well, several American sports franchises and star athletes, from Major League Baseball to the NBA, are also embraced Bitcoin and crypto. For instance, Tom Brady, a seven-time Super Bowl champion, reportedly signed a partnership deal with the FTX crypto exchange.
