Hyperbridge, a long-awaited protocol for crosschain applications, launches its mainnet on Polkadot.

Contrary to traditional finance, blockchain space is ripe with networks that can’t communicate with each other on their own. The lack of native interoperability between blockchains has long been an obstacle that prevents asset and data transfer across chains. Interoperability is key to crafting a connected blockchain ecosystem that can unlock new possibilities while protecting decentralization.

Polkadot is a blockchain designed with interoperability at its core. Its modular architecture enables developers to build custom blockchains while benefiting from pooled security. The ecosystem welcomes a new protocol that will further advance interoperability capabilities.

Taking interoperability to the next level

After securing a parachain slot on Polkadot, Hyperbridge, a highly anticipated blockchain interoperability protocol that aims to take crosschain communication to the next level, has officially launched its mainnet. The brainchild of Polytope Labs — a collective focused on addressing infrastructure problems within the blockchain industry — the protocol acts as a coprocessor for secure, scalable and verifiable crosschain interoperability.

Leveraging advanced technologies such as zero-knowledge (ZK) proofs and onchain finality validation, Hyperbridge addresses the growing need for secure crosschain communication by providing a robust alternative to traditional multisig-based bridges.

The newly launched protocol comes with native support for prominent blockchains, including Ethereum, Optimism, Arbitrum, Base, BNB Chain and Gnosis, with more integrations on the way. Hyperbridge will facilitate message transfers between supported chains to forge a more connected blockchain environment.

Using Hyperbridge, developers can launch crosschain applications in a short span of time. The protocol offers onchain and offchain software development kits to developers for securely sending crosschain messages and reading onchain storage.

Projects aiming to operate across multiple blockchain networks — like stablecoins, real-world assets, decentralized autonomous organizations (DAOs), non-custodial native bridges or any project requiring crosschain functionality — can easily launch decentralized applications using Hyperbridge’s streamlined platform for multichain expansion. This flexibility allows developers to bring interconnected projects to life without facing the typical barriers presented by siloed networks.

    A robust infrastructure

The project is backed by Web3 Foundation and Scytale Digital. In the seed funding round led by these organizations, Hyperbridge raised over $2.5 million to become the most successful parachain crowd loan in the Polkadot ecosystem.

Hyperbridge has been thoroughly tested to ensure a smooth transition to mainnet, completing two testnet cycles. During testnet periods, which saw participation from 66 independent relayers, over 600,000 crosschain messages were processed across supported networks.

The mainnet introduces a token bridge for asset transfers. This high-security gateway replaces conventional multisig bridges, which incurred losses of over $2 billion in exploits with ZK-proofs and onchain finality validation, ensuring both anonymity and security.

Gaining instant access to multichain liquidity also provides expansion opportunities and unlocks new use cases for a wide range of projects, including DAOs, stablecoins and real-world assets.

Security is one of the pillars that support Hyperbridge’s design. Integrating ZK-proofs into crosschain operations results in a much safer alternative than risky multisig bridges. Additionally, as they share the same infrastructure, Hyperbridge is regularly audited by Polkadot’s team, ensuring that it upholds the highest standards of security and compliance.

Seun Lanlege, the founder of Polytope Labs, believes security is a prominent feature of Hyperbridge, stating, “Bridges are only as strong as their authentication mechanisms.” Lanlege continued:

“By leveraging finality-based authentication and eliminating multisig committees, Hyperbridge offers unmatched security, allowing developers to build the next generation of decentralized applications with confidence.”

The blockchain space is constantly growing, and the need for crosschain communication is higher than ever. With its mainnet launched, Hyperbridge is poised to enable a truly unified blockchain ecosystem where assets and data can flow freely and securely.
