Warner Music Group, the major record label, announced on Dec. 6 a multi-year partnership with the Ethereum sidechain network and the Web3 music startup. Artists signed to Warner Music Group labels will be able to release music NFTs through the upcoming Polygon-based marketplace LGND Music.

LGND Music is an online marketplace set to launch in January, which will offer purchasing and listening to songs as NFTs, as well as other digital collectibles from musicians.

LGND will launch desktop and mobile Web3 apps for interacting with the NFTs, similar to an iTunes experience, with plans to support music NFTs from other platforms soon.

WMG’s popular label Spinnin’ Records is part of the deal. Spinnin’ Records has released tracks from artists like David Guetta, Tiesto, R3HAB, and Robin Shultz.

Electronic dance musicians Deadmau5, Steve Aoki, 3LAU, and Dillon Francis are among the biggest electronic artists that have bought or sold NFTs and advocated for the technology.

Polygon is the main layer 2 of Ethereum, enabling scalability, convenience, and security for Web3 projects. Polygon’s scalability solutions already have widespread adoption, with tens of thousands of decentralized apps, nearly 175 million active addresses, and over $5 billion in total assets. It hosts some of the largest Web3 projects, such as Aave, Uniswap, OpenSea, and well-known companies like Robinhood, Stripe, and Adobe.

Warner Music Group continues its streak of Web3 partnerships this year. On Sept. 29, the record label conglomerate announced that it would partner with NFT marketplace OpenSea to accelerate its artists’ expansion into Web3. The first joint project will be an IP-generative ‘NFT Label Pass’ developed by Web3 startup Probably Nothing.

In October, Warner Music Group was looking to hire at least two people who can develop and manage Web3-related projects, according to the job posting on LinkedIn. The first position would be focused on creating marketing plans for metaverse brands and platforms, as well as finding new opportunities within the metaverse, Web3 gaming, AR, and VR fields. Also, WMG wanted a candidate with a strong knowledge of gaming and blockchain.
